Pressrelease - Laser 4.7 Youth European Championship 2012 From 11. to 18. August 2012 - 400 participants - 30 nations

Once again the Yachtclub Breitenbrunn is the host of a top-class sailing European Championship. From 11th to 18th August 2012 more than 400 upcoming talents from approximately 30 nations will compete at the Laser 4.7 European Championship.

Following last years Hobie Multi Europeans, this is another high-level event, attracting the attention of international sailing sport fans. The European Championship Laser 4.7 will be carried out on two courses, where the numerous future Olympic athletes will compete in 4 boys and 2 girls fleets.


Additionally to the participants more than 250 coaches as well as relatives and accompanying persons are expected. Overall we will welcome more than 1000 guests to Breitenbrunn and the region. The international competition but also the changing and tricky wind and weather conditions at the lake Neusiedl will guarantee interesting races.

Like every nation, also the Austrian sailing talents are preparing well for this event. Among them the siblings Valentina and Lorenz Fais, whose previous accomplishments read like the story of a future Olympic athlete. Both have already been very successful in the optimist, both have been Carinthian state champion in 2008 and vice champion in 2009. In the boats class Zoom 8 Valentina accomplished Burgenland state Champion, Austrian Youth Champion, Austrian Champion and second place at the World Championship.

Last year, both changed to the Laser 4.7 class, where Lorenz could win the Austrian Championship and the 5th place at the Europacup Breitenbrunn 2011. Valentina was ranked fourth girl at this Europacup.


Austria is therefore not only an outstanding host for the upcoming Laser 4.7 European Championship, but also has sailors with the potential talent to mix it at the top.
